A Giant Snowflake

Have you ever tried to freeze water? I did and the water became ice. So I would have thought that when rain freezes it turn into tiny pieces of ice, but according to these pictures the snow has patterns! We rarely get snow in London, so I was really amazed to see this! And it left me wondering what makes water to freeze in this way? Maybe in science lessons we will learn this. These pictures were taken by a photographer called Alexey Kljatov.

Karate cats

Have you even seen karate cats? I just have!  Japanese photographer Hisakata Hiroyuki took photos of cats during their fights. It really looks like they know some ninja moves. So COOL! I practice karate for two years now, but I am not as good as these cats yet. I think I need to spy my grandma’s cat 😊. The most interesting thing for me is how the photographer captured their movement in the perfect shots. When I do photos of the moving objects, they come out blurry. Can you share any photography tips?

DIGITAL LEADER

A few days ago, I did a post about my Scratch game (click here to see it). Well, the reason I developed that particular game is for my application for a Digital Leader position at school.

A Digital Leader position is something new in our school. It is actually a job (unpaid unfortunately) for children in Year 5 and 6. But fortunately, a Digital Leader can do a lot of exciting things like helping teachers with IT (Information Technology) lessons, running parent workshop and helping kids with IT problems. I had to apply for this job and explain why I will be a good Digital Leader, and looks like I did well because I got the JOB!!! HOORAY!

I will now be going to regular training sessions with my IT teacher and will even go to a Technology Fair at the end of the year. I will also be given a badge, so that the school knows who is the ‘Go To’ person for all things related to Computing. Let me know if you have any questions about programming!

M1 Robot

Good news. I have turned 8! Some kids get a pet – may be a dog or a cat. For me, it is time for some new cool, smart toys.
To start with, my parents got me this box which contained a large collection of strange looking parts. After only a few minutes I knew I was going to build a robot. My own robot. I have even given it a name. It is called M1.
Well, after much discussion and reading, I was able to assemble it. I took some pictures of my progress, and here they are.
Don’t forget, this is only the beginning……

Brussels – Atomium visit

As a family we LOVE traveling. Does not matter where really – in England or outside, as long as there is something new to see and experience. This time we went to … Brussels – the capital of Belgium. We saw some interesting things, but two of them were very memorable. One is the Manneken Pis – a small sculpture of a little boy peeing into the fountain – HAHAHA! But most amazing one was the Atomium! This was the most unbelievable and unusual structure I have ever seen

It was built in 1958 for the World Fair. It was designed to last for 6 months only, but became so popular that it is still around. The structure has a shape of an iron cell, consisting of nine iron atoms magnified 165 billion times! (Wikipedia said this!). People can go into spheres using the escalators in the tubes – one of them is the longest in Europe. When it was first built, the structure did not have any supporting columns on the side, but Wind Tunnel test concluded that 80km/h wind will easily topple it over and the supporting columns were added. Still the whole thing looks amazing like a spaceship!

Fuel Cells – Make Electricity from Gas!

A while back I wrote about my locomotive which runs on Fuel Cells – What a Locomotive Should Look Like.
Now I want to tell you more about Fuel Cells.  Fuel Cells are like batteries, but very different and very cool!  Fuel Cells create electricity from Hydrogen gas.  They do not pollute the environment.  Hydrogen gas is cheap and there is lots of it.  I think in the future many things will use fuel cells – Cars, Buses, may be even planes!  Look at the picture of the car, no polluting engine!  Instead, there is a fuel cell driving an electric motor.  I would love to buy a car which uses a fuel cell.
I will try to find some more pictures and will upload soon.

Superfast plane

Look at my Superfast plane! I drew it on a computer.  You will notice it is a double-decker plane like the Airbus A380.  But it also has huge area below the passenger decks to carry a lot of cargo.  And there is something else very unique about my large plane – It can land in water and take off in water as well!  Can you come up with another design?  Do let me know.
